Back For A While

I had no idea it'd been almost 2 months since I'd written anything and considering I've heard from 2-4 family members and friends, I thought I'd better try to find something to put on here. So...let's see what's rolling around in the old noggin.

Today is November 27 and the big news here in Arkansas is the "unexpected" resignation of our head football coach Houston Nutt. He stepped down last night amid weeks of rumors and speculation of his eventual departure, whether by his choice or the univeristy's administration. There are 2 camps here...those that wanted Houston out and a new coach hired OR those who supported Houston and the job he was currently doing. Personally, I was a little on the fence. I think with all the extra-curricular activities off the field that have plagued this team for over 18 months, it was time to move ahead and put things behind us. Unfortunately for Houston, the only way I saw this happening was for him to leave.

As someone who's been on the wrong end of a firing before, it's no fun and as much as I've disagreed with Nutt's playcalling decisions and some of his attitudes toward the fans, I feel bad for his family for having to endure the strife of seeing their daddy go through all the backlash.

However, word this morning is that Houston will be named coach at Ole Miss. I hope that if this is indeed the case, both he and his family AND the rest of the Arkansas Razorback nation will find peace, contentment and be able to move on.

We spent Thanksgiving this year at Jennifer's sister's house in Austin. We were all excited to go visit Kristin and Dave and the boys for a few days vacation. Believe it or not, even though we ate a lot of turkey and desserts, I didn't gain any weight...although I did overeat a bit too much of the sweet potato casserole. It was awesome to be able to see everyone and spend some great quality family time.

The one thing that DID stand out to me was the amount of traffic. I've heard for years about all the vast amounts of holiday traffic on the highways and airports but I've never experienced it first hand. I still have no idea how with hundreds and thousands of cars on the interstates going 75+ mph, there are going to be bottlenecks and traffic jams. Yet, we added about an hour to our travel times both to and from Austin. Still, it was much better than enduring the hassles of going through an airport.

I've got some decent "honey do" projects around the house I'd like to get done before Christmas. Last night, I spent a few hours starting to clean out our closet and Jennifer finished it up around 11:30p so that has been a HUGE task we've now completed. We definitely feel like we've accomplished something huge.

Next up to bat, repainting the kitchen. I'm very excited to do this 'cause I get to replace the nacho cheese yellow with a nicer, more soothing light green. Don't worry...pics will follow.

Kaitlyn has really done well with her competitive cheer. I'll get some of those pics posted on here later too. It's still humbling to see that little baby girl you held in a hospital delivery room suddenly out there doing backflips and twists & turns. She is also really starting to become a beautiful young lady and I'm not so sure Daddy is ready for this.

Here's a link to some new pics we had made as a family last Monday. I absolutely love some of these pictures too. The way our photographer captured the essence of our kids so eloquently is stunning. I can't wait to get some of these blown up and hung over the mantle.

Hope you all have a great week.
